Augustus Ranch had its beginnings with August Kaspar, who purchased 100 acres in Shiner back in 1890. Over a century later, Dennis & Cordelia Kaspar and their children oversee this (now 5,000 acre) ranch based in Yoakum, Texas, is steeped in family tradition of innovative agricultural practices and of raising animals in natural conditions. Five generations of Kaspars have made ranching their life’s work, which shows from the care of their animals to the commitment to the quality of the products that bear their name.

Their cattle are kept to the healthiest diet including grass (naturally rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins), fresh forage, and a proprietary finishing feed which includes nutrient-dense plant materials (no corn or soy), resulting in higher levels of beta-carotene and antioxidants than conventional grain-fed beef. They also focus on breeds that are suited to the Texas heat, which minimizes stress on the animals for a more humane life and better tasting meat. In addition to several breeds of cattle and pigs, Augustus Ranch also raises goats. This is not only beneficial for the flavorful goat meat, but because goats have amazing land management properties since they eat a large variety of plant life.
