In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we are celebrating women in our food community that are helping to make Texas, and the world, a better place.
Melody McClary has spent more than 10 years working in the local food community, advocating for good, local food across Texas. In addition to farming her homestead south of Austin, Melody leads the on-location farming program at Tito’s Handmade Vodka – a true fantasy come true!

Why It is Important To You To Support Women in the Food Community:
“I’ve never really spent a lot of time thinking about it. I mean it’s something I’ve always celebrated but maybe for me it comes from my appreciation of balance and creating opportunity. Not enough people want to grow food or work inside of the food system that a small farm needs to support it. If someone is willing to invest their energy into promoting, using, and creating food, that act of love should be championed!”
Shoutout a Fellow Female Food Community Member:
First, all the ladies at Farmhouse Delivery, Carol Ann of Boggy Creek Farm, Lorig Hawkins of Middle Ground Farm, Tamara Mayfield of Dai Due, Rachel Buchanan of The Leaning Pear, Kathleen Kuper of Tito’s Fantasy Farm, Marianna Peeler of Peeler Farm, Ellen Beaman and Marissa Lankey leading the ACC Elgin Ag program, Leah Gibson and Julia Poplowsky with the Central Texas Meat Collective, Pamela Arnosky of Arnosky Family Farm, I’m sure there’s more but I’ve already wayyy surpassed just one! Oh and Kim Olson who is running to represent us as our next Texas Commissioner of Agriculture.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and one of our favorite superfood snacks on-the-go, The BOSS Food Company, is making it easy for you to add your support. For every purchase of a box of 12 bars, BOSS will donate $2 to @MyHopeChest, the only national non-profit that facilitates and funds breast reconstruction for under-insured and uninsured breast cancer survivors.
