We are beyond thrilled to officially announce that Greenling Organic Delivery will now be Farmhouse Delivery. For those of you loyal Greenling customers that aren’t yet familiar with Farmhouse, we’d like to introduce ourselves and extend a warm welcome your way.
Started by Texas native and Austin urban farmer Stephanie Scherzer, Farmhouse was founded in 2006 with the dream of making local, consciously-raised food more readily available to Texas residents. To this day, the goal remains the same. Finding that the demand for locally-sourced, sustainable food continues to increase in Texas, our efforts will only grow as Farmhouse and Greenling unite to bring exclusively Texas-local foods to residents in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas.
You’re probably wondering what this means for you. Well for starters…
- We are a subscription-based service. Greenling didn’t require a subscription, so we understand why you may have a few questions about why Farmhouse does. Because we only source from small- to mid-sized local farmers, predictability is key to being able to fulfill customer orders. When using a subscription model, we’re able to predict how much of each product we’ll need from our farmers season by season, creating more stability for the farmer, therefore longevity for their business. It also helps us make commitments with our farmers, allowing us to work hand-in-hand to plan out which products have more demand and should therefore be grown in greater quantities.
- We’re firm believers in quality over quantity, so while you may see a smaller variety of products available for delivery, we guarantee that every item on our site has been hand selected by our owners and buyers for its superior quality and flavor. We encourage you to peek around our website to see the selection of pasture-raised meats, hormone and antibiotic-free dairy & eggs, pantry items with no unnatural preservatives, and the freshest artisan baked goods. Be sure to ask about our new program Supper Club, too. It’s similar to Greenling’s Meal Kits, equipping you with all the ingredients your need to make a gourmet meal at home. Supper Club is an optional subscription add-on that pairs with your bushel produce to help you use the weekly contents of your delivery. Plus, of course, everything Supper Club offers is local, seasonal, and the freshest quality.
- Our food is beyond organic. Of course, organic food was very important to the Greenling model, so we understand how important it is to you. You might notice that many of our products do not claim organic certification. While some of our farmers and vendors may not put the ‘Organic’ stamp on their product, more often than not, 100% of their food is raised using organic practices, beyond the minimum requirements for federally approved organic certification.
- Why wouldn’t our farmer’s be certified organic if they use extremely organic practices? Organic certification can present financial and regulatory challenges to small and mid-sized farms that don’t always make economic sense for them. Our standards for the food we sell are extremely high (more so than any national grocery store), so rest assured, if it has the Farmhouse stamp of approval, you can feel good about eating it.
