Houston, let’s grow some fruit trees!

Why not make your yard a little fruitier? I just got off the phone with some new friends at Edible Earth Resources in Houston. They help people plant and maintain their own edible gardens, and their mission is to help others grow more of their own food in a sustainable manner. We love that.

One of the beautiful things about living in Texas is the sheer abundance we see from our farmers and gardens throughout the seasons each year – so cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients makes sense.

When anyone asks us if they should grow their own food or get deliveries from Farmhouse, we always say to do both! Our bushels have some flexibility, so if peaches are in season and your tree is yielding enough, let us know and we’ll happily substitute them. (Although, can you ever have too many peaches?)

If you live in Houston, check out the Edible Earth Resource class on fruit trees this Saturday, May 24th at 9 a.m. and noon. You can learn about which trees grow best, site selection, planting and organic pest control.

LOCATION: Houston Makerspace
