Sweet and Savory Ways to Cook with Summer Berries

Summer berries have arrived! Sweet strawberries, succulent blackberries, and blissful blueberries- all tasting like pure summer. Of course, you can simply snack on berries, but we are offering recipes to incorporate these summer gems into your menu planning- complete with sweet and savory ideas.

Blackberries

At the top of their game, blackberries can be incredibly sweet and plump. Incorporate them into a Blackberry Vinegar Caramel Sauce to serve over dark chocolate ice cream or shortbread cookies. Smashed blackberries also give great texture to drinks like in this Bourbon Blackberry Collins or Blackberry Mint Agua Fresca.

Blueberries

Blueberries are the true gem of summer- when they are good, they’re great. Buy them by the pound at the top of their season and freeze for Basic Blueberry Smoothies or to throw in this Gluten-Free Lemon Blueberry Coffee Cake. Throw fresh berries into a simple Blueberry Quinoa Salad or yogurt parfaits. Sweet blueberries also pair beautifully with a slow roasted pork tenderloin, as in this Pork Tenderloin with Blueberry Sauce.

Strawberries

The strawberry wave is still going strong, and there are so many ways to include these berries into baked goods, desserts, salads and more. One of our favorite ways to celebrate strawberries is to bake them into warm pastries, like these Strawberry Graham Scones and Strawberry Basil Shortcakes. Throw them into a seasonal salad like this Strawberry Rhubarb Salad with Mint and Hazelnuts or Farro, Kale, and Strawberry Salad with Bacon and Chili-Dusted Pepitas.

Berries Medley

Have a little bit of everything? This Grain-Free Mixed Berry Crisp is great for those looking for gluten-free options with summer fruit. We also recommend a Mixed Berry and Whipped Coconut Cream Pie to bring to a summer party (or a Smashed Mixed Berry Pavlova to truly impress your guests!).
